22-year-old Grace Downer from Ryde has been banned from driving for 22 months after rolling her car into a field whilst more than 2.5x the drink-drive limit.
Emergency services were called to Ashey Road on 13th March this year when Downer’s Renault Twingo left the road on a right hand bend and rolled into a field.
The crash saw the vehicle come to rest upside down and resulted in the 22-year-old community carer sustaining a severe laceration to her ear. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved.
Downer, of High Park Road, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after failing a roadside breath test. She later gave a blood sample which returned a result of 203 ml/g of alcohol – the legal limit being 80.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this week heard from Miss Downer’s solicitor, Oscar Vincent, that she was suffering from sleep deprivation and stress having worked 5 nights in a row. She hadn’t eaten on the day of the crash, but had consumed alcohol.
Magistrates handed down a 22-month driving ban and ordered Downer to pay a fine of £425 with £85 costs and a £43 surcharge.

Grace, Remember the post you put on your FB as to the Volvo parked across 2 lines in Tesco in Feb, you left a not on it which read “your parking is very inconsiderate please think of others” well maybe you should take your own advise and think of others when you are 2.5x the drink drive limit. Maybe when your car was upside down in a field after crashing the public should have placed a note on your windscreen. In February you posted this note with no reason other than to ridicule so it looks like your actions and being caught was KARMA
Got what she deserved. She is drink driver. They are irresponsible, selfish and dangerous. Didn’t anyone tell her you don’t go anywhere near a car when you’ve had a drink, it’s the law. Perhaps she hasn’t got any common sense.
How is it that almost EVERY day there is a car ON ITS SIDE or ROOF somewhere on the island.
It should rarely happen.
