The occupant of a small hatchback has escaped serious injury after her vehicle rolled into a field at Ashey earlier this morning (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to the scene just off The Downs at around 10:00.
A brown Renault Twingo left the carriageway whilst travelling towards Ryde, overturning and coming to a stop upside down in a field.
The road was closed between East Ashey Lane and Brading Down Road for a time, but has since re-opened.
Police aware stickers have been placed on the vehicle to alert passing motorists that the authorities are aware of the incident.
UPDATE @ 13:41 – Police have confirmed that a 22 year-old woman from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
She is in Police custody having earlier been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
UPDATE @ 17:40 – The woman has been released from custody pending further investigations.
Investigating officers are now awaiting the return of blood results.

Ban her for few years and give her a big fine, total uncaring moron who is chancing her life and endangering others, people might say I’m being harsh but whoever’s drives under the influence should be banned for life, get a taxi, bus or a lift stop being a idiot your end up killing someone

It would make a big difference to some if the insurance company refused to pay out if the driver is convicted of D/D….
That is exactly what has happened in a case where I was a victim. My damages were paid but the drunk drivers insurance company declared her policy void and will be taking her to court for the amount they paid me. Don’t expect they will pay for the car either!
