A 29-year-old man from Brighstone and a 22-year-old man from Sandown have been released from Police custody after being arrested in connection with an attempted knife-point robbery in Sandown yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Police responded to Sandown Discount Store on the High Street at 13:41 to reports of a robbery.
A male entered the store with a knife and threatened a woman who was situated behind the till. However, nothing was stolen – it’s thought as a result of the shopkeeper’s response to the situation.
The individual – and another male – made off from the scene and attempted to hide in the nearby derelict Ocean Hotel. It didn’t take long for the 2 suspects to be detained though.
Hampshire Constabulary has today confirmed that a 29-year-old man from Brighstone, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
A 22-year-old man from Sandown, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, has been released under investigation.

A slap on the wrist will be along soon…
Released for armed robbery JOKE
Total scumbags. Times are hard but you don’t go out on the rob and steal from others. What’s wrong with these people. To wave a knife around is absolutely despicable. If you need money, get a job and earn it. Grow up and stop breaking the law. I hope they both get a prison sentence but it seems this crime isn’t serious enough for time to be served.
Try this in an Islamic country and they’d cut your hands off, we are far too soft on people like this.
Try this in Brazil or Mexico and you will get skinned alive.
Ahh yes, seen many videos of that back in the day when best gore was around.
In a way I’m glad Mom has passed on. Sandown will just become another Tombstone with the lawlessness of Mad Max which was set in 2021!!
Unbelievable I remember when I was younger the same thing happened 2 people attempted to Rob a petrol station they fled with nothing both got remanded and given 5 years for attempted robbery and psychological damage to the cashier who had been threatened
Surely, if you are prepared to use a knife on someone to rob them then you are a danger to the public? Isn’t it the police’s job to protect the public, not to release these people back into society?
Not one mention of having an offensive weapon in a public place or that it has been recovered. So released straight back to the Ocean Hotel to pick up the weapon & have another go somewhere else. After all they will have fines to pay for this, so will need to get hands on some cash fast. Takes to long to earn it!!
