A man from Brighstone and a man from Sandown have been arrested following an attempted robbery that occurred at a discount store in Sandown this afternoon (Sunday).
Police were called at 13:41 to a report of a robbery at Sandown Discount Store on Sandown High Street. Multiple Police vehicles responded to the address on the busy road.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a man had entered the discount store with a knife in his hand and threatened the female behind the till.
Both men tried to get away from the scene by attempting to hide in the nearby abandoned Ocean Hotel, however they were quickly located by officers.
Nothing was stolen from the shop.
A 29-year-old man from Brighstone has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. A 22-year-old man from Sandown has also been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.
Both men remain in Police custody.

Some years ago the Government decided to get tough on knife crime with an automatic five years minimum for using a knife during a crime – I wonder what happened to that?

A policeman friend once told me they mostly only catch the stupid ones.
Needs the poor females male rellies to go and speak to these low life, for surely you KNOW the courts will do nothing as our jails are filled to bursting with the worlds criminals now, so no room for any of our own UNLESS them commit worse crime than them, and trust me, that takes a lot to achieve.
I feel for the lady shop worker simply trying to earn a living, then to be threatened by more lumps of excrement that are lurking amongst us….
I was in there the day before and the lady was lovely behind the counter….I hope she wasn’t too shook up ….

Scum bags. A horrible experience for the female in the shop. What’s wrong with these people for them to walk into a shop and threaten another person with a knife. Lock these two losers up. Shouldn’t be allowed to walk round in society.

So the scumbags constantly prowling the high street in Sandown stealing all they can get from the shops high on drugs have now moved up to attempted armed robbery, would be nice to see some more police presence on foot and not just whizzing by in cars, I’m sure the courts will again come up trumps and let them off Scott free

Such a nice little shop,small stock but such good value, some good DIY fixings/ tool’s etc as well as kitchen essentials etc. I make an effort to pop in when in Sandown,she and staff are so nice, helpful etc and such a good example to holiday makers who pop in . Hopefully this is a one off and these two low life scum improve their behaviour before someone’ helps them ‘ to behave. Prison and forced work to keep themselves, why do prisoners have more rights than honest law abiding folk ?.Stop giving hand outs in benefits if don’t behave,if druggies then again give them rehab,if fail why do we keep allowing them,so many people starving now in UK and world but we keep giving to selfish low life’s.
