Police have confirmed that 2 people have been arrested on suspicion of affray following an incident in Binstead earlier this morning (Thursday), which led to a large area of open land being cordoned off.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Beatrice Close, off Ringwood Road, at 05:30.
Local residents reported hearing a commotion, with a cordon then soon erected off Ringwood Road, as well as across a pavement and verge at the entrance to Beatrice Close.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 31-year-old man from East Cowes and a 23-year-old man from Cowes were treated by paramedics for minor injuries sustained.
They have both since been arrested on suspicion of affray and have been taken into custody where they remain at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened with door-to-door enquiries getting underway and CCTV footage being identified.
No weapons have been seized.
UPDATE @ 15:14 – A crime scene remains in place as a forensic investigator collects evidence to aid the investigation this afternoon.
2 flip flops have been placed into evidence bags.
Detectives from Newport CID are also present, indicating the severity of the investigation.
UPDATE FRIDAY – 3 further arrests have been made following Thursday’s incident, which has led to a house being raided and drugs being seized.

No weapons, minor injuries so why two men argueing does it need such a large response, cordon off and house to house?. If had been burglary or car Vandalised be lucky to get any police response.

Look I think we should try and distance ourselves from the mainland and become our own country…. We can have immigration and check people’s criminal records etc , our beautiful Isle of Wight is becoming like a 3rd world country , it was never like this in my day , sorry if you disagree but I’m sure loads of islanders will agree with me also , I’ve had enough
I agree with your frustration, we have all had enough! as far as your ref to ” our own country ” that is point blank stupid. We are in this mess just like the rest of the country, there needs to be a complete rethink of how this country is run and that starts with national government. This is a tiny Island with a lot of local problems, our council not helped by national government, cannot even run the ferry between Cowes and East Cowes.
You believe that they could run an Independent Country! Get real. Frustration followed by a stupid comment achieves nothing. Change of national government followed by local council is the only realistic option and that carries no guarantee.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Why shouldn`t we be independent of the mainland? If the Channel Islands can do it, then so can we. This is not a stupid idea by any means.
