A 16-year-old is said to have suffered a back injury following a collision between a car and a bicycle on the outskirts of Newport yesterday (Wednesday).
Police and paramedics were called to Blackwater Road at 17:00.
Island Echo is told that the vehicle failed to stop at the scene of the crash and was ‘chased down’ by another car that was travelling behind.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 5pm on Wednesday 18 March to a report of a collision between a car and bicycle.
“The incident took place in Blackwater Road, Newport.
“The 16-year-old rider of the bicycle sustained a back injury. The driver of the car was not injured.
“Enquiries into the collision are ongoing”.

Sadly this report is inaccurate. The cyclist is actually in his 60’s and definitely not 16.
