The National Trust is this morning (Wednesday) appealing for information following a fly-tipping incident at one of their car parks.
Around 150 vehicle tyres have been discovered to have been fly-tipped in Jubilee car park off of Lynch Lane on Mottistone Downs.
If anyone has any information on the fly-tipping that has taken place at Mottistone, you are asked to contact the National Trust office on 01983 741020.
A spokesperson for the National Trust has said:
“Sadly, we’ve discovered 150 car tyres fly-tipped in Jubilee car park on Mottistone Downs.
“We’d really appreciate it if anyone who has any information about this got in contact with us on 01983 741020.
“Thank you.”
UPDATE @ 11:15 – A local mobile tyre fitter, Christopher Plant, owner of Tyres of Wight, has seen the appeal and expressed his disgust, and even offered to dispose of some of the tyres:
“This is absolutely disgusting, I as a Mobile tyre service ensure all my scrap tyres are disposed of responsibly.
“This gives all the ones working hard and providing honest service with a bad name.
“Due to the cost involved in tyre disposals Myself, Michaela and Kai would like to offer disposal of 50 tyres.”
UPDATE @ 14:44 – Chris from Tyres of Wight has been at Mottistone clearing the dumped tyres.

yeah well… perhaps if the council were more committed to waste disposal and recycling, by ensuring that all designated sites for waste disposal are open and that charges are either non existent or minimal, then fly tipping wouldn’t happen.
Shut up! U muppet….
@Golly – it takes one to know one – that would make you the muppet.
Yeah, I’m sure it’s just your everyday person… who happened to have stock pilled over 100 old tyres! Get a grip you plank.
shut up cage – if the person who had the tyres was able to take them to a council run recycling centre and drop them off, free of charge, then this wouldn’t have happened – would it – now who is it who needs to get a grip, you plank.
Commercial Waste – Need to pay, not free!
Problem here is the authority haven’t got the resources to prosecute fly tippers
@disgusting..
waste is waste, irrespective of what you classify it as. As I said earlier, (which has attracted the attention of a large number of knuckle draggers), perhaps if the council put more time and effort into ensuring that we had much better recycling and waste facilities that were open more and didn’t charge, then fly tipping wouldn’t happen.
a business already coughs up exorbitant business rates for the privilege of operating in the locale that it does. As you are being forced to hand over some of your revenue in the form of a tax, against your will, then you should get something in return. One of those things should be waste disposal facilities provided by the authority that is sponging off the business.
If councils are too short sighted to change the way they operate, then they can expect more fly tipping in the future.
What is wrong with people. Wrongens
I’m no detective but what about local cctv home owners/ businesses have.
Only a few road to this car park.
All this fly tipping is the result of the Green’s naive mantra of “the polluter must pay”, instead of ensuring that the most toxic of materials are disposed carefully and correctly. All that could be thought of was to make things difficult and expensive to do correctly, so we have the inevitable result. If the potential polluter was rewarded with a nominal sum for correct disposal we wouldn’t half of these problems. It would probably save money in the long run and be good for the environment.
Disgusting when you have new tyres fitted they charge for disposal of old tyres so someone made a lot of money who ever responsible should be made to pay and shamed
With there being the bare min roads this tool could use, have/are police looking at local residents/ businesses cctv.
My guess is it was a tipper type vehicle, done in the late or early hours.
Someone knows who this was, I bet you that. Now call crimestoppers and…. yes grass in them. It IS tbe right thing
Low life
Well done Chris….
Why is the local dump not offering tyres of wight free disposal, if they are willing to take all the tyres there
How about making planters around the car park edges with wildflowers in for the bees, if you provided me with the soil i would be happy to do it good way to re use them.

Well Im going to need a couple of new ones soon
We all know where these tyres come from when you sell your old car to the would be pikeys, collecting car over loading their transit recovery trucks, breaking cars at unregistered sites selling the alloy wheels for cash then dumping tyres illegally, where’s the environment agency.?
Why should the re-cyling not charge for tyres. The tosser who dumped the tyres has already charged his customers for disposing of the tyres. He is basically a thief.
Well done Chris .
