Another flood alert for the Eastern Yar has been issued as a result of continued rainfall in recent days.
Since 14:00 yesterday (21st November) only 1mm has been recorded at Wroxall, elsewhere At Alverstone, the river is falling at a rate of 2cm per hour.
Residual minor flood impacts will be affecting roads, cycle tracks and footpaths in the Upper Yar Valley. At Sandown, the river is just beginning to peak, and will start to fall later this afternoon
Minor impact flooding will be affecting Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road. Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.
For the rest of today, the weather should be mostly dry allowing the river a chance to recover.
On both Wednesday and Thursday, up to 20mm of rain is forecast with more flooding a major possibility.
If this affects the river, the water level will begin to rise again. We continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating. This Flood Alert will be updated at 12:00 on Wednesday.

More bad weather will be along soon…
So much for all of us paying the extra bit in our water bills of ‘Highways’, total disgrace, we should all get a refund
As more and more benefit breeding hutches are built, with rooves, and road water draining into the river up-stream then time will only ever add to the issue.
But, fear not, the Councilors, planners, and developers will be living ‘high and dry’ well away from the damp, wet flooded areas, in super heated homes, in leafy lanes on the massive income building and developing land brings them.. and
Councilors salaries and pensions are funded by the ever increasing amount of council tax even from those spongers who don’t pay, as Central Government then ‘pick up the tab’, to fund the Council tax here, but we the tax payers then fund Central Gov.
Yet spongers are seen as the victims now, when they are far from that in almost all cases
Deluded that you said the government and councillors were the issue amd still pinned the blame on the vunerable, i hope you never fall on hard times
Hose pipe ban due again?
If the sluice gate was opened up, every out going tide at bembridge maybe, just maybe we would not have the floods on the brading road from sandown or further up stream. Also making the streams wider to channel water away from low lying ground. (Simples)
