A Ryde man who crashed his car Ywas found to have a cocktail of drugs in his system at the time of the smash.
Craig Sheriff, 38, of Marlborough Road in Ryde, admitted drive a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (8th October).
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell, told the court that on the 19th April Police were called to Arreton after receiving reports of a road traffic collision that had left a hatchback with no bumper.
Upon arrival, Police found Sheriff in the drivers seat of a Vauxhall Tigra. The court heard how the car smelt of burnt clutch and that Sheriff was visibly drowsy and was slurring his words. When questioned, Sheriff admitted that he may have had ‘too much’ of his prescribed medication.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive reading for cocaine. A urine sample taken at Newport Police Station upon Sheriff’s arrest showed he had levels of morphine, cocaine, codeine, ketamine and quetiapine in his blood.
Sheriff has a total of 33 convictions for a total of 73 offences and recently spent some 8 weeks in prison.
Defending Sheriff, Oscar Vincent said that his client was taking a routine trip and that he couldn’t remember much about the events of 19th April.
Sheriff was handed a 12-month driving ban and ordered to pay a fine of £200, costs of £85 and a £80 surcharge fee.
