The volunteer crew of Cowes RNLI provided assistance to a 28ft yacht on the Solent earlier this afternoon (Saturday).
Cowes’ inshore lifeboat was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at 14:37 following reports that a yacht had become entangled in a marker buoy off the Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS).
The casualty vessel was initially assisted by a training yacht belonging to UKSA, but the extremely strong west going tide needed the extra power offered by the lifeboat’s twin engines.
Once in the safety of Cowes Harbour the yacht was handed over to harbour staff and the awaiting Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team.
The incident was witnessed by those present at the Isle of Wight Lifeboat Board’s AGM at The Royal Yacht Squadron. Attendees watched the lifeboat speed past to assist the casualty and, around 40minutes later, saw the Lifeboat return with casualty alongside.
