The discovery of the wreckage of a boat washed up on the rocks at Wheelers Bay, Ventnor sparked a coastal search earlier this afternoon (Saturday).
Solent Coastguard were alerted to the alarming situation shortly before 13:00, which resulted in Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team being mobilised to the scene.
Coastguard Rescue Officers conducted a shoreline search between the east of Bonchurch and the west of Ventnor to locate any further wreckage.
Photos and details were taken and passed onto the National Maritime Operations Center for further investigation.
The boat is thought to have been fairly large and boasted a radar system.

This wreckage is almost certainly from a fishing vessel. With an open array radar and furuno GPS fast heading sensor (normally linked to a eletronic charting system & autopilot .. hope the crew are safe .
Hopefully the vessel was unmanned just slipped its moorings during the recent bad weather.
We may hear more after the coastguard are able to check the serial numbers on the radar array and heading sensor with the manufacturers tomorrow.
Some pictures would have been nice.
