Work is well underway at a major supermarket in Ryde to bring Yo! sushi to the Isle of Wight for the very first time.
As first reported by Island Echo, Tesco Extra in Ryde will host a manned food-to-go counter which will allow Islanders to experience restaurant quality, made-to-order Yo! sushi without having to go to the mainland.
Over 70 dishes full of Japanese flavours will be available from the in-store kiosk, and it is believed that home delivery will be available via Deliveroo and UberEats.
The counter, which is to open at the back of the store where the former hot deli and fish counters used to be, was originally set to open this month. However, it seems more realistic that it will serve its 1st customers in September.
It was 5 years ago that Yo! and Tesco began their partnership with 2 trial stores. Now, the kiosk setup is being rolled out to more than 50 stores nationwide – including here on the Isle of Wight, but only at Ryde.

I look forward to trying this but i do miss the hot deli counter.
Would rather have a hot tasty sausage any day.
Don’t you have a frying pan?
What we need is the fresh meat and delicatessen counters back. I f I want a couple of normal sized chicken breasts I either have to buy 4 or get little tiny portions of breast. When I questioned this to one of the staff he just said oh buy 4 and freeze 2. I told him we didn’t eat frozen food – He just shrugged. Also I hate thin sliced ham but the choice of thick sliced is limited if available. I have decided to switch to Morrisons who still supply fresh meat and a delicatessen, for now anyway.
Go to a butchers and support local businesses then.
Just a thought
I would love to be able to afford all my meat from a local business, however I am controlled by my budget as many folk are. I too will miss the fresh counters
That’s what I’m doing but is a lot more expensive.
Exactly, there are some excellent butchers on the island and the quality of meat is far higher than supermarkets for not much more cost. Get the ham cut as thick as you like and the taste is far superior.
Clearly something we desperately needed instead of nice munchies and fresh fish. Is Sushi really that big? It’s nice, but I’d love to know what the perceived demand is.
So much looking forward to this delicious food and its healthy food.
Yes I like it buts expensive for what you get. In London they are mega busy but Im not sure with the current strains on people it will do very well here.
I am pretty sure that Yo Sushi will have done their research before opening so don’t worry on their part. I look forward to it opening. I love sushi!
Cold fish. Just like some women ive known.
Maybe you lack the capacity or charm to make a woman “warm” to you.
I was being humorous. Sadly you seem to lack the capacity to understand. Next.
We have one of these counters in our store, total waste of space
It will be a novelty to start with.
Much prefer meat and fish counters personally.
But hey ho for those that like it !!!
Enjoy ……..
Well that’s a complete waste of time I can’t see it lasting long. They would have been better off asking the customers what they would like to see
