For the very first time, members of Lowland Rescue teams across the country have been awarded medals to mark the Queen’s Jubilee – including here on the Isle of Wight.
8 members of the team have this year been presented with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal, recognising the work they do alongside members of the emergency services.
Dean Terrett, Chairperson and Founder of WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search and rescue team – handed out the medals to his 7 colleagues and was also awarded a medal himself.
2 other team members received a Jubilee long service certificate as they received medals as part of their day jobs.
The awarding criteria was provided by the Government and contained elements of the length of service, the type of service and continuity of service.
Controversially, control room staff members for the Police, fire and ambulance services were not eligible for a medal this year.
Dean Terrett has said:
“As chairman and founder of Isle of Wight Search and Rescue, it gives me great privilege this morning to award our long-serving team members with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal”.
Great bunch of people, well deserved
