Wightlink has been recognised for its support of animal welfare at the Southern Region Animal Star Awards.
The Isle of Wight ferry operator was presented with Animal Star of the Year at a ceremony held on Sunday 24th May at The Village Hotel in Portsmouth, celebrating organisations and individuals making a positive difference to the lives of animals.
The award recognised Wightlink’s ongoing support for animal welfare initiatives, including providing ferry travel for animals being rehomed and assisting local charities such as the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary and Wildheart Animal Sanctuary.
So far this year, Wightlink has provided almost 100 crossings for animal charities on the Island through its Wightlink in the Community scheme.
Animal Star Awards founder Mary Burgess said Wightlink’s commitment to supporting animals and the organisations that care for them had made a real difference.
“It was a tremendous honour to present this recognition to Sam Woodman on behalf of Wightlink.
“Wightlink’s commitment to animal welfare is truly commendable. Through its support of animal sanctuaries across the Isle of Wight, including the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary and Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, the company provides free passage for animals being rehomed, making a meaningful difference to their welfare and future care.
“As a pet-friendly operator that actively promotes the well-being of animals, Wightlink helps ensure that passengers can travel with confidence, knowing their pets are welcomed, cared for, and valued throughout their journey. Their dedication to supporting both animals and the people who care for them makes this recognition thoroughly deserved.”
Sam Woodman, Wightlink’s Partnerships Marketing Manager, said the company was proud to see its work acknowledged.
“We are delighted to receive this award and grateful to the Animal Star Awards for recognising the work we do alongside local animal charities and sanctuaries.
“Animals are an important part of many people’s lives and we are proud to support organisations that provide care, protection and second chances for those in need. Whether helping a rescue animal reach a new home or welcoming pets on board our ferries, we are committed to making travel as easy and stress-free as possible.”
Founded in 2016, the Animal Star Awards celebrate the achievements of both animals and the people who support them, with a particular focus on promoting animal welfare and recognising those who make a lasting impact in their communities.

Wightlink are very generous with their free trips.
I don’t begrudge animal charities I love animals
before people get their knickers in a twist.
What with free crossings for teens too.
Wightlink obviously don’t need the revenue
obviously the extortionate fares we pay are funding the
generous freebies.
Maybe thank the paying customers for
their generosity, where would Wightlink be
without them.
