As Wight Tyres approaches its 2-year anniversary under the leadership of Managing Director Ryan Smith-Matthews, the business is celebrating incredible growth, community support and a renewed commitment to exceptional service.
Since taking over from Jamie on 21st November 2022, Ryan and his team have seen Wight Tyres expand by an astounding 1000%, an achievement made possible by the team’s dedication and the local community’s loyalty.
Starting with a team of just 2 employees and himself, Wight Tyres now proudly operates with a team of 8, including a 24/7 mobile tyre-fitting service with 2 fully equipped vans. These vans serve all types of vehicles—from cars and vans to trucks and even agricultural and industrial equipment. The business has also secured partnerships with some of the world’s largest manufacturers and top UK fleet maintenance providers, cementing Wight Tyres’ reputation as a trusted partner on the Isle of Wight.
The workshop has also come a long way from its humble beginning. What used to be a dated garage with limited stock and no customer amenities, Wight Tyres HQ now boasts a modern, air-conditioned waiting area and office complete with a Betapak coffee machine that serves fresh, Isle of Wight-roasted coffee.
The addition of a skilled mechanic service early on, led by Dan, proved essential to the company’s growth and has added a new dimension to the business. Though Dan recently left, his hard work and dedication were instrumental, and he’s warmly wished the best in his future endeavours.
Ryan says:
“When I took over Wight Tyres, I couldn’t have imagined the support we’d receive from the local community.
“The last two years have presented their challenges, but we’ve grown stronger and more connected with everyone.”
Among the team, one of the newest and celebrated hires is Tommy, who joined Wight Tyres from a successful national company. With 5 years of experience in the industry, Tommy now serves as the center manager, overseeing daily operations and bringing a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to the team.
Beyond business growth, Wight Tyres has been a committed advocate for the local community, helping keep the island beautiful by clearing dumped tyres from various locations. The team also supports local charity initiatives, such as Terry Ramplin’s fundraising for Prostate Cancer Isle of Wight through his spectacular Christmas lights on Long Lane.
Customer appreciation for Wight Tyres’ service is evident in the 200+ 5-star reviews received across several review platforms. These reviews speak to the high level of service and attention to detail the team delivers daily. Unique offerings, like free puncture repairs for the life of tyres purchased & fitted at Wight Tyres, 5-year accidental damage warranties on select brands, and a 12-month guarantee on commercial puncture repairs, are part of Wight Tyres’ mission to deliver unparalleled value.
Looking ahead, Wight Tyres has ambitious plans, including offering wholesale services, moving to a larger premises to increase capacity, and expanding into MOTs and vehicle tracking services. These plans underscore Ryan’s commitment to meeting the needs of the community and making Wight Tyres the go-to destination for all things tyres on the Isle of Wight.
