Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) went to the aid of a 24ft boat with engine failure during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Solent Coastguard tasked the independent lifeboat station to launch at just before 02:30 following reports of a vessel in difficulty around a mile-and-a-half off shore in the outer reaches of Sandown Bay.
It didn’t take long for the Atlantic-class lifeboat to locate the casualty vessel and establish a tow into Bembridge Harbour, arriving around 2 hours later. Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team met with the lifeboat and casualty vessel.
Yesterday (Saturday) saw the first shout of the weekend for SSILB, this time at the other end of their working patch off St Lawrence near Ventnor.
A small rib with 2 persons on board – an adult and child – reported being in difficulties, prompting the lifeboat to make waves to their location at over 30 knots having launched at just gone 17:00.
The RIB was escorted safely into Ventnor Haven before the lifeboat returned to station.
