A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with downpours expected to cause disruption during the early hours of tomorrow morning (Friday)
The warning, issued by IW Met Service, is valid from 02:00 until 09:00.
Showers are forecast to merge into longer spells of heavy rain overnight, with some areas potentially experiencing thunder. Rainfall totals could reach as much as 50-60mm in just a few hours, particularly in localised areas.
The conditions are expected to lead to:
• Localised flash flooding in areas prone to surface water accumulation, as well as rivers and streams temporarily overtopping their banks
• Mud, soil and stones being washed across rural roads and footpaths, posing a hazard to motorists and pedestrians
• Polluted stormwater runoff potentially affecting some of the Isle of Wight’s beaches
Residents and road users are advised to take extra care, particularly when travelling during the warning period.

We desperately need the rain, sadly get ready for the
cliff falls that usually follow.
