Isle of Wight residents are being urged to take action now to avoid unnecessary increases to their energy bills when the Energy Price Cap rises again in October.
Island charity The Footprint Trust says the upcoming change could add around £60 to the average annual household energy bill, with those on standard variable tariffs particularly encouraged to review their options.
The charity says households that remain on standard variable tariffs will see prices increase automatically when the new cap takes effect.
However, The Footprint Trust says residents may currently be able to secure a fixed-rate tariff at rates up to 8% lower than the current price cap, potentially protecting themselves from the October increase while making more immediate savings.
Those already on fixed-rate tariffs will not be affected by the change until their existing deal comes to an end.
The charity is encouraging Islanders on standard tariffs to compare energy suppliers and look for fixed deals priced below the upcoming cap.
Anyone already struggling to meet their energy payments is being advised to contact their supplier as soon as possible to discuss setting up an affordable and manageable repayment plan.
The Footprint Trust is also offering support to Isle of Wight households experiencing billing disputes or looking for ways to reduce energy consumption and costs at home.
