The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth is proud to have secured one of the City’s largest private sector employers as sponsor for the Wavemakers volunteer programme, applications to which have now opened for 2016.
The team organising the Portsmouth event are looking to secure 250 volunteers. Mike Healy, Portsmouth Site Director from Airbus, the Official Volunteer Partner, accompanied 10 Wavemakers to Southsea Castle to officially mark the opening of the 2016 application process.
Mike said:
“Our Portsmouth base has been key in our development over 60 years to becoming the world’s second largest space company employing more than 1000 people at our Portsmouth site. We are therefore proud to sponsor the ‘Wavemakers’ Volunteer programme at the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series 2016 in our home town of Portsmouth. We are keen to support our local community, demonstrate our commitment to the area and connect our people and highly innovative technology to this exceptional event.”
The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth is all about high adrenaline, fast paced action on the water, as the best sailors in the world compete on ‘flying’ boats that reach speeds of over 40mph, just metres away from the spectators on shore. Last year close to a quarter of a million people visited Portsmouth to watch the action with British heroes Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing taking the win on home waters.
The Wavemakers volunteers were integral to the success of the event, helping to make the spectator experience fun, engaging and enjoyable. The Wavemakers are more than the face of the event, they are the local ambassadors, they inspire visitors to the City and educate them about everything the America’s Cup has to offer. Each and every volunteer is proud and passionate about their City, giving visitors a warm welcome and assistance to enjoy the event to maximum effect.
Event Director Leslie Greenhalgh added:
“The ”Wavemaker Volunteers were a huge success story from last year’s event. Their unfailing cheerfulness and enthusiasm gave the event real character. This dedicated team of trained volunteers contributed hugely to our ability to stage this spectacular event. We are delighted to have such an important local company as Airbus on board helping us support over 250 Wavemaker volunteers before and during the event.”
To prepare for the event, Volunteer training days will be designed and again be delivered pre-event by HTP Training, the Official Customer Services Training Provider to the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth. HTP Training is one of the leading work-based training providers in the country, specialising in working with business leaders from a wide range of sectors to develop staff, achieve business goals and access Government funding.
