Beachgoers are being urged to stay vigilant after further sightings of a highly poisonous plant, known as Hemlock Water Dropwort, were reported on Bembridge beach today (Monday).
The plant – also known as Dead Man’s Fingers – is extremely toxic to both humans and animals. Even a small amount can prove fatal by attacking the nervous system.
Its root, which resembles a parsnip in both appearance and smell, is particularly dangerous. The recent stormy weather is believed to have contributed to the plant washing ashore.
Members of the public, particularly those with children and dogs, are advised to avoid contact with the plant and take extra care when visiting the coastline.
The plant was also spotted on the Island just before Christmas, as previously reported by Island Echo.
A spokesperson has said:
“It is highly likely that this is washing ashore due to the recent stormy weather. We advise people, especially with children and animals, to stay vigilant. Please avoid this plant and take extra care when visiting the beach.”
Anyone who finds themselves or others in difficulty on the coast or at sea is urged to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

more containers just fell off a ship, look into that? Could be coming from them?
weird foods from foreign countries I’d say
My thoughts exactly could have come from the overseas
floating containers.
At first I thought they look similar to spider crabs.
Good sunshine food.
