David Thornton has resigned as Chief Executive of Visit Isle of Wight after more than 5 years in the job.
Mr Thornton joined the destination management organisation at the point of its founding back in 2012, but is now set to move on to ‘new opportunities’.
One of David’s main focuses during his time as CEO has been to promote short breaks on the Island to wealthy, London audiences – but figures released last month revealed that visitor numbers were down with fewer visitors from the north of England, the Midlands and Hampshire.
Prior to arriving on the Island, David worked as Head of Marketing for Visit Peak District & Derbyshire. He also worked for Merlin Entertainment.
Simon Dabell will assume the position of Chief Executive when David leaves towards the end of January. Simon will also continue as Chairman.
