A van leaving the road and rolling into a hedge resulted in a call-out for Police, Fire and Paramedics earlier this afternoon (Sunday).
Emergency service personnel were first called to the scene on Whitwell Road, near St Lawrence Shute, at around 14:15 following reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
At the scene a VW Transporter left the road and rolled into a hedge.
Firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to the scene amid fears that persons may have been trapped.
Thankfully, the casualty was quickly passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Whitwell Road was closed for a while whilst the incident was dealt with.
The van has since been recovered from the scene.
It remains unclear how the incident occurred.

Another island road with “”NO”” speed Cameras
or speed humps.
If I had a pound everytime I drive along this road
and numpties speeding nearly push oncoming
vehicles into an hedge.
It’s about time something was done on the island to
make our roads safe for all motorists.
Staplers Road and Briddlesford roads are other examples
of vehicles speeding.
Roll on devolution, we need brains running the show
not numpties.
SPEEDING KILLS
More and more places around the country are introducing
20mph
Come on IW make Roads safe.
Who said it was speed? Could have been ice or Drunk driving or fell asleep…..etc etc. Stop the crusade to slow everything down on the Isle. When it takes 35 minutes or more just to drive from Newport to shanklin its not about slower its about people that just suck at driving
Have you driven along this road?, it’s a
death trap.
No it’s not. Stay in Seaview
“More and more places around the country are introducing
20mph”.. really ??
Wales (which did introduce a blanket 20mph limit in all built-up areas) has reverted most of them back to 30…
(and those that are still 20,.. very few people stick to them, & they don’t seem to police them at all…)
I was in Wales a few weeks ago & even the police cars don’t stick to teh 20 limits.
Apparantly 20 is not plenty (as you used to repeatedly claim)
If numpties who speed keep receiving heavy
fines in the post, it will stop them.
How can you have a one vehicle collision, surely it has to be two or more.
Hear hear!
It is a single vehicle incident, as a suggested description.
Or, its a “single vehicle that left the carriageway unintentionally (well it might be unintentional ).
I think we all know it would have been some demented pensioner, probably full of horse tranquilliser and gin and tonic and speeding while on the phone to their bondage partner in Peru. I’m with Enough is Enough. If we used pensioners as speedy bumps, problem solved.Save on pensions, NHS costs and tarmac at a stroke.Sorted.
When are these people going to learn? We need 10 mph speed limits! Over 50s re-test. More speed bumps
J.S
As has been said no reason has been given for the accident, so therefore stop bloody crusading and use any common sense you have, you ars****ole.
just ignore him,…
he’s not ‘crusading’… he’s a troll,. plain & simple
only posts stuff like that to get a reaction (from people like you)
if everyone just ignores him,.. he’ll eventually get fed up with getting no respose & go somewhere else
You are right this impersonator of myself
is an are****ole
The REAL Enough is Enough
(Not a Numpty impersonator)
It’s the young numpties not the over 50s
More speed humps are required
The REAL Enough is Enough
(Not a Numpty impersonator)
Yeah, all those old gits who do 20mph in the middle of the road and can’t park
Yeah, and CCTV(‘)s on every corner!
you really are a prick
