An urban search is underway in Newport this afternoon (Monday) to locate a high-risk missing male.
WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search and rescue organisation – has deployed a full team at the request of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. They were called out just before 15:30.
WightSAR personnel have initially focused their search on the Towngate area of Newport, with boots on the ground congregating at the British Red Cross premises on Hunnycross Way.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary – including a dog unit – are also present in the area in a bid to locate the missing person as quickly as possible.
This is the 2nd callout of the day after an individual was located in the Brading area shortly after WightSAR was called out.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are yet to issue a missing persons appeal.
UPDATE @ 17:45 – The missing person has now been found.
