SERIOUS CRASH IN UPPER VENTNOR CLOSES ROAD


UPDATED: A 2-car crash in Upper Ventnor is causing traffic delays in the area this afternoon (Thursday).

The incident has occurred on Newport Road, between the shop and the schools.

Local traffic is currently having to divert via side roads to navigate around the scene of the collision.

UPDATE @ 17:15 – Police have now closed the road in both directions between Rew Lane and Down Lane. Motorists are being diverted at Ventnor and at Whiteley Bank.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene and are assessing those involved.

UPDATE @ 17:30 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that 3 vehicles have been involved – a Toyota Yaris, a BMW and a Ford Fiesta. The front of the BMW has sustained significant damage.

UPDATE @ 17:44 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now on scene in Ventnor, alongside 2 ambulance crews and multiple Police units.

Southern Vectis say their Route 3 buses will be diverting through Whitwell and Godshill with a shuttle bus running between Godshill Griffin and Wroxall Church until further notice.

UPDATE @ 17:55 – Firefighters are working to extricate at least 1 person from one of the vehicles, thought to be the Yaris.

Emergency services have been on scene for almost an hour now.

The road is anticipated to remain closed for at least another 1-2 hours.

UPDATE @ 19:40 – 2 people have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital this evening.

The road remains closed.

UPDATE @ 22:13 – Newport Road, Ventnor remains closed tonight and the area has been cordoned off.

The extent of the injuries received is unclear at this time.

UPDATE @23:40 – Newport Road, Ventnor has now reopened to traffic.
