The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has announced that face masks will once again be mandatory at St Mary’s Hospital and in other Trust buildings from tomorrow (Friday) – but it isn’t enforceable by law.
Just weeks after dropping the requirement, to the relief of many, all patients, staff and visitors are once again being asked to wear a face mask in all public and clinical areas. However, it’s not clear what action will be taken if people refuse, especially given that it is no longer a legal requirement.
It is a massive u-turn and a step back in the progression of moving on from the pandemic.
Karen Robinson, Associate Director of Nursing, Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control for Isle of Wight NHS Trust, has said:
“The safety of our patients, staff and the wider community remains our top priority.
“As a result of increasing cases in the community and in hospital we are reintroducing mask wearing at all Trust sites to help reduce the rate of transmission.”
Other restrictions may come back into force as the Trust says it will take further action, if required.
Good decision, seeing as there was a massive increase in cases, due to the festival and also because of all the visitors and 2nd homeowners pouring over here again.

I’ve had three jabs and I’ve had enough of being in pain again because of brusing and several days of pain after receiving a jab,
I drive a taxi and in contact with many people, coughing, sneezing, and leaving their snot tissue in my car for me to clean up…yet I’ve been ok..
I’m sick and tired of this Covid stuff, I thought the jab was meant to stop up from ending up in hospital….what’s the point of it all??

Quite disturbing that such decisions are being made by the people you trust your health to.
Sadly after recent events I don’t trust anybody much in that hospital. There isn’t much care going on. Talk the talk, but don’t do the walk. Take people away from you and promise to look after them and do the exact opposite. Sad and shockingly disappointing
Yes the virus itself can past through the material. The point is to stop the water particles that carry the virus from passing through as easily.
The new official advice, which I have been doing since March 2020, is to live our daily lives, but with caution – ie, face masks in enclosed public spaces, and go back to hand sanitizing and social distancing. I still observe Hands. Face. Space. This virus hasn’t gone away, and with a heatwave next week, it is set to get worse.
