Police officers on the Isle of Wight arrested a range of outstanding suspects for a number of offences earlier this week, in what has been labelled a ‘day of action’.
On Tuesday 16th May, Supt Rob Mitchell and Chief Insp Alex Charge joined teams from across the Isle of Wight for a day of action to arrest outstanding suspects for a number of offences.
The activity is part of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s work to relentlessly pursue criminals and put victims of crime first.
The arrests included:
- A 44-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a 43-year-old man was assaulted on Ryde Esplanade on 25th March. He has been bailed until 16th August pending further enquiries.
- Harry Lee Simmonds, aged 24, of no fixed address was arrested an subsequently charged with breaching a sexual risk order on Fairlee Road in Newport on 12th May. He appeared at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Wednesday 17th May. He will appear at the same court again on 2 June.
- Overnight from May 16th-17th someone tried to break into the Co-Op on York Avenue in East Cowes. Damon Lee Wilkins, aged 24, of Merridale Road in Southampton was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted burglary. He has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 2nd June.
Supt Rob Mitchell said:
“Since becoming the Island’s police superintendent last December I continue to be impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of our officers and staff. There really is a “one team” spirit here with the desire to protect the public by pursing criminals and those that cause harm in our communicates.
“During the day of action I worked with detectives Charlie Loggin and Sam Daffern who joined our local policing teams as part of the wider effort.”
