A 57-year-old Island Roads driver accused of seriously injuring an elderly man in Newport will stand trial at the Isle of Wight Crown Court in January next year – almost 3 years after the incident occurred.
Richard Price, of Redlake Road, Freshwater, has been charged with causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, as previously reported by Island Echo. The charge relates to an incident on 27th January 2023 on Church Litten, outside Marks & Spencer, in which pedestrian John Davies sustained serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the time and both Mr Davies and another pedestrian – both in their 80s – were injured. However, the prosecution’s case focuses solely on the serious injuries suffered by Mr Davies.
Price appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court last October where he pleaded not guilty. The case was last heard on Monday (11th August) and has now been adjourned for a 4-day trial starting on 5th January 2026.
This means the case will be heard almost 3 years after the incident in Newport.

Everything seems to take so long on the island!.
This crossing is very dangerous, what I have noticed
recently on the island, many crossings are silent when
you can cross, what happened to sound?
It helps when crossing, especially if a person is blind.
Time to bring back sound, many crossings in Newport
are silent.
