56-year-old Richard Price from Freshwater is to appear in court next week accused of causing serious injury to an elderly pedestrian by careless driving.
It was on 27th January last year that an Island Roads vehicle struck a male and female – both aged in their 80s – on the pedestrian crossing outside M&S on Church Litten, Newport.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene as part of the emergency response, landing in nearby Church Litten Park. The flying medics subsequently airlifted 1 of the casualties to Southampton General Hospital, with the other taken by land to St Mary’s Hospital.
Over the past 18 months, collision investigators have been piecing together the events of last January – which has included a reconstruction of the crash scene.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed to Island Echo that the driver of the Island Roads Iveco van, 56-year-old Richard Price of Redlake Road in Freshwater, will face charges at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (17th September).
He has received a postal requisition for causing serious injury by careless driving to Mr John Davies.
UPDATE – Richard Price will appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 21st October for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
