The Tesco store in Ventnor has had to close for the majority of today (Saturday) after it experienced electrical issues.
Located on the High Street, the towns express store was forced to shut halfway through the day after problems with their tills meant that they could no longer complete any transactions.
This forced staff to shut the doors and erect a note in the shop window explaining the closure.
It is unknown how complex the issue is with it unclear as to whether the store will re-open tomorrow.

Bloody Russians…more failures will be along soon….
what about the 2 self service checkouts ?
Ummmm – it affected all the tills???!!!
Most people in Ventnor don’t pay for nothing anyway,
apart from stupid sea shells,
they are all mad.
5000 alcoholics clinging to a cliff.
TTFT, your inane comment marks you out as educationally subnormal. Get back in your pram.
That was a quote said many years ago. Can’t remember who said it. Ventnor is a very strange place. A major culture shock..
You need to think before you make a slanderous comment like that, or you have the law knocking at your door.
Unbelievable
One imagines the five finger discount brigade took full advantage of the situation.
We had a three-hour powercut in almost the whole of Winchester on Thursday. Slowly we are going into the 1970s and constant powercuts. The United Kingdom is only the 5th richest economy in the world if you are a fat cat energy supplier charging sky high prices for a poor service. And it will get worse.
Could you please sort your Prison Out, as it is Really Crap !
The plan is to crash the economy, hence inflation etc
Get ready for a social credit system
If so the revolting peasants have had all their guns taken in readiness and are only allowed to carry a plastic butter knife and all pitch forks are in heritage museums now
So any resistance will be pointless and as authorities can cut power access to money and the net at a flick of a button we best get used to it now
They can only cut you off, if you have a smart metre, sadly to late for most people.
Why can they only cut you off if you have a smart meter? A smart meter is literally a ROM chip and a SIM card, in addition to the traditional digital meter infrastructure.
Because, if you have not got a smart metre, the energy suppliers have to have your permission to go on to your private property to manually switch off your electric/gas.
Whilst if you have fallen into their trap of having a smart metre, then they can cut you off bye the flick of a switch from their HQ.
(ps, don’t pay on October 1st).
I think you may be misinformed. You cannot refute implied right of access to any utility company irrespective of the presence of a smart or conventional meter.
There is physically no way of remotely switching off supply via a smart meter or HQ as you refer.
Not sure that’s correct? I had the misfortune 4 years ago of losing my job whilst having a large electric bill. I tried to arrange payment but British Gas (who my electric was also with) were not happy with my offer of payment. I was threatened with Bailiff entry to my property and that I’d need to pay for locksmiths etc. I tried to allieve this and made various payments. They continued to then say I MUST allow access to fit a Smart Meter. I agreed. I’d quickly found a temp job which was awkward to take time off from but got it agreed but at no pay for me. 1st time was an ‘all day slot’. I waited in and no one came. I rang several times and eventually got through to be told the Engineer had been held up. No apology. 2nd appt arranged and agreed by them as they’d not come, to be a ‘morning’ slot. Took unpaid time off. No one came!!! More anger and phone calls from me. 3rd time a ‘dedicated time slot. Guess what? STILL NO APPEARANCE!!! Then COVID hit. So, to this day I never did get the Smart Meter. I lost 3 amounts of pay and had HUGE stress. Given the predicted price rises now, my question is – HOW will people cope and WHAT will companies do? Surely they cannot threaten/carry out disconnection for all those who cannot cope. I’m very worried what the future holds.
