Islanders have today (Sunday) paid tribute to the fallen as ceremonies were held across the Isle of Wight on Remembrance Sunday, remembering those who have lost their lives protecting Queen and country.
A wreath laying ceremony took place in St Thomas’ Square, Newport with officials, residents and local organisations paying their respect alongside the crowds of locals who gathered around the memorial in the center of town. A parade leading from Drill Hall Road proceeded the ceremony.
Meanwhile in Ryde, a service was held at All Saints Church before a parade made its way down to Lind Street, where a ceremony was held at the town’s memorial (pictured). Wreaths were laid by Cllr Charles Chapman, Mayor of Ryde Cllr Roi Milburn and local groups such as the Scouts and Army Cadets.
Other gatherings took place at memorials across the Island including in Bembridge, Lake, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor and Yarmouth.
