Supermarket bosses are splashing the cash at Tesco Extra in Ryde with plans to resurface the car park.
Contractors are set to move in next month – ahead of the busy run up to Christmas – to carry out the resurfacing off Brading Road.
The car park is just 15 years old as it was newly created when the Extra store opened in 2008.
Island Echo has asked Tesco why the works are being carried out, including whether it is connected to the constant flooding/puddling issues experienced by shoppers, but no answer has been given.
A spokesperson for Tesco has, however, said:
“Parts of our Ryde Extra car park will be temporarily closing for improvement works later in October. This will be done in stages to ensure customers can still park at the store when shopping with us.
“We apologise for any inconvenience while the works take place.”
It’s not the only change at Ryde’s Extra store… a brand new Yo! sushi kiosk has been created at the rear of the store, as previously reported by Island Echo.
In the past few weeks the trolley shelters around the car park have been replaced, and some removed.
Why? It’s in better condition than all of the roads on the island
Perhaps they’re doing it so it stays that way? Better than waiting, like Island Roads/the Council do, until the roads fall apart and are full of potholes.

Likely to make the parking spaces even tighter to cram more in for when Ryde doubles in size with newcomers filling Bullen and Pennyfeather housing stock
I expect the Banana aisle will increase too and Mc Donald’s will have to move to new premises to cope

The abomination that is the Pennyfeathers development must never be allowed to happen. It would destroy Ryde forever in a singular act of profit fueled environmental vandalism.

Resurfacing a good car park, better than some roads on the island.
In shop fridges and freezers leaking water a fall hazzard, dirty mouldy price tickets.
If it works don’t fix it, if it’s broke fix it.
Complete waste of time and money. Trolley parks were done first and look no different.so many people struggling with the cost of living , you keep raising prices despite the fact that they are meant to be coming down and then fix something that’s not broken . Goes to show the kind of company you really are .
Switch to Aldi and Lidl.
Whatever you do don’t let ISLAND TOADS anywhere near this job unless you want it too take twice as long and only last a few weeks before crumbling away.
