Members of the public in Ryde are being urged to keep an eye out for vandals who are causing persistent damage to the temporary toilets at Western Gardens.
The toilets have been installed at Western Gardens while the works to Ryde Interchange – including the movement and renovation of the bus station – take place.
Vandals have caused major damage inside the toilets, ripping the door of one of the cubicles and damaging the urinals as well as attempting to set fire to something in the toilets causing extensive damage to the walls of one cubicle in particular.
Whilst the toilets have only been open a matter of months, there have already been major repair works undertaken as a result of the damage and a constant battle is ongoing at the moment just to keep them open.
Toilets are essential to life. What I fail to be able to understand is that, if all this along the Esplanade has to be, why on earth were the new toilets not built and commissioned BEFORE the original ones were demolished? Someone should be brought to account for this. NOW . As for the temporary loos, they invite vandalism. Look at them, which scrap yard did they come from? And who is responsible for acquiring them? You too must go NOW .

Make a charge to enter. That will make them think. But that might be a little hard for the toilet honey bees.
So where are police and IOW council, prevention is better than damage after.
All public toilets need to be stainless steel. No seat all lined out in steel no paper provided, bring your own and no hand wash bring gel.
The more basic the better as if you are desperate for a no 2 any wc is a relief and if you aren’t desperate then use a pub toilet.
The culprits will either be chavs or teenagers, if you got caught doing this when I was young the consequences would be 10x greater, shame the worlds gone mad and proper discipline is no longer acceptable.
I cannot understand why there are so many that just want to destroy things and think it is funny ?/ No thoughts as to others… yet they will moan when hit by higher council tax to pay for all the damage these ignorant people cause… No respect for where they live.. When/if caught, they should be sent back to mainland where they came from.. with their parents !! Ban them from this Island.
Unfortunately most are Islanders trying to keep up with and impress there mainland chavs, if caught then should be given community service cleaning public toilets and maintaining them. Made to suffer needing a toilet and no where to go
Likely to be bored disaffected youths, maybe from the island. Who knows? Why blame people from the mainland? Why weren’t the lava made 40p to enter? That usually deters the dullards
Hidden camera near to these toilets. Catch the the b*stards who think this is a laugh and MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE DAMAGE. Why should council tax contributions pay for this?
