A technical issue with Wightlink’s flagship vessel, Victoria of Wight, has resulted in the cancellation of a number of sailings on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route this afternoon (Tuesday).

It is understood only the St Clare is currently operating the cross-Solent service.
It is unknown at this stage if any further sailings will be cancelled th
Wightlink apologise for any changes to your travel plans.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Due to the ongoing technical issue, a number of sailings have been cancelled today.

More cancelled ferries time for new reliable company we all sick of being held messed about by these jokers
What are the technical difficulties and why have they not been sorted by now it’s been going on all year
They have Wight Sun tied up on their pontoon in Portsmouth. Its been there for weeks. Why don’t they use it as a backup? Once upon a time they had four ferries dedicated to the route to this route.
Absolute joke it seems they are only running one ferry
I was booked on the 2 o’clock which is cancelled, they hope to get me on the 3 o’clock but not guaranteed
I’m just feed up of there excuses week in week out
Is this even news anymore at this rate?
And on and on and on it goes! Wightlinks not doing itself many favours these days!
When bean counters run an essential infrastructure service.
This will happen.
C’mon Bob, sort it out!!
I thought this was a News App. What is newsworthy about Wightlink yet again and, quite frankly this is pretty much a daily occurrence, providing such an unreliable service. What with their faulty equipment and the now legendary “Sicknote” this company must surely rank as the worst transport business in the UK.
Is there no regulatory body monitoring the amount of cancellations and broken service?
Once again, the Eco-friendly Victoria of Wight,.. which reduces emissions by not working…
Who’s going to rattle the cages of the “if you don’t like it, move off the Island’ brigade, with a comment about a fixed link ??
I’m getting really nervous about my Christmas booking, I’m coming from France to the Island to spend time with my family over the Christmas holidays, am I going to be able to get there, and more importantly, get back. Surely, this company has no morels, I’m sure I read somewhere that Wightlink won some awards??? Really! probably for the worst company and letting people down.
“Surely, this company has no morels,”,.. What!!!! they got no Morels… OMG… have they got any Shiitake ?
I suppose at a pust I could be OK with Chanterelles or Oysters..
That’s the trouble with battery operated ferries, the battery goes flat.
Moan bloody moan get a life you lot
These technical issues, coupled with the sickness epidemic apparently endemic amongst essential staff members, is getting a bit silly. Metaphoric shrugs of the shoulder and bland apologies just don’t hack it anymore.
So much for assurances given to our MP back in the day !
I BLAME THE AUSTERITY AND TORY GOVT
Some people may find this link useful:

I’ve only recently started to monitor the number of cancellations (and reasons) by Wightlink, but it appears to me to be happening with increasing regularity. Not sure why the local MP asked each of the Ferry Operators for their Winter Preparedness Plans several months ago if no action appears to be being taken??. Time to be held accountable!
@Justice seeker – waste of time that link – many have tried to use that pointless legislation against ferry companies, however, the part that is actually relevant and should be noted, to save you wasting your time trying to get any compensation is…..
However, this compensation isn’t payable where the delay was caused by weather conditions endangering the safe operation of the ship or by extraordinary and unavoidable circumstances that hindered the sailing.
……….
in other words – you haven’t a hope in hell of getting any compensation at all, ever.
I truly believe wightlink couldn’t even run a bath….
Let alone a ferry company
but it’s their new ferry….what a shite company and service… roll on the fixed link
You know who to vote for, Carl solentfreedomtunnel.co.uk
With all these “issues” these boats have should they be classed as sea worthy. I think they could be a danger to the public.
Let’s face it, there’s some sort of drama bear every day now
Fixed link all the way. Stuff the ferry companys, what is this, the dark ages!?
Put a charge on it and it’ll keep the nob heads away and yes I’m an islander through and through.
OK so a key member of staff goes sick, they cancel the ferry, what happens to the rest of the crew?
This ll wreaks of insufficient bookings to financially justify running a service
