South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) has announced a Garden Open Day, which is taking place on 24th July.
The owners of 2 properties in Freshwater Bay and Brighstone have generously volunteered to allow the public to view their flourishing grounds with all proceeds going towards building a new community hub in Chale Green.
SWAY has been an important Isle of Wight charity since October 2014, during which time they have grown to serve the families of South Wight. The charity was established with the aim of bringing young people together in social groups and volunteering opportunities within their communities.
The properties involved in the ‘open day’ boast a topiary, orchard, herbaceous borders, rose and formal gardens among other features. Being summer, they are both currently in full bloom and promise to show visitors the best of the British country garden.
Little Pitt Place, in Brighstone, is a 15th-century thatched cottage with a garden of 1 acre. Topiary, yew hedges, gravel garden, herbaceous borders, vegetable garden with box parterre, small wild meadow and free-range hens.
Bakers Farmhouse and gardens in Freshwater Bay were completely derelict when the present owners bought the property in 2000. The 2.5-acre garden, was created gradually and has matured over the years into a pretty substantial area.
The open day will be from 14:00-17:00 on 24th July.
