Police are searching for the driver of a van, which is suspected of being involved in the theft of fuel, after he failed to stop for officers during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
Hampshire Constabulary say that reports were received overnight of fuel thefts from 2 vehicles on Colwell Road.
As part of their investigations, officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of being involved in the crime. The male driver failed to stop as directed.
The van was subsequently located and seized in Orchard Close off Hooke Hill, but the driver could not be located.
Local residents tell Island Echo that the driver fled in the direction of Longhalves Lane. He remains outstanding at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing.

Did they say please?

Do they ever catch anyone
pretty straightforward solution here – arrest the legal owner of the vehicle until the owner does one of the following..
1. give up the name of the person driving
2. accepts it was them driving if they won’t agree to option number 1 and be charged with the thefts etc.
3. report that it was stolen, with the caveat that if it is subsequently discovered that it was not stolen, they will forfeit the van and have the costs
associated with the investigation deducted from wages/benefits using an attachment of earnings order. They would then be offered option one or two again – take your pick.
