UPDATED: Strong winds at either end of the Solent have resulted in the suspension of both Hovertravel’s service and Wightlink’s Yarmouth ferry service this morning (Friday).
Adverse conditions mean that Hovertravel have halted their Ryde to Southsea operations until further notice. An update is due at 08:00, but it is unknown at this stage when the hovers will be back up and running.
Meanwhile, in the West Wight Wightlink have suspended their Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service for the entire day.
As announced yesterday (Thursday), a passenger charter vessel is operating from Yarmouth during peak commuter hours whilst the main service is suspended. It comes following an announcement that the Wight class ferries will not run in winds exceeding 20 knots.
UPDATE @ 11:30 – Hovertravel services have now resumed in accordance with the advertised timetable.
