Firefighters have been alerted to a damaged property in the village of Bembridge this afternoon (Sunday).
Residents at Lane End discovered the remnants of felt roofing from a neighbouring property in their garden shortly before 15:45.
Strong winds, which have seen Hovertravel and Red Jet suspend services today, is to blame for the damage.
A fire appliance from Ryde has been mobilised to the scene at Fisherman’s Walk opposite Bembridge RNLI lifeboat station.

So some felt blew off of an outhouse in an exposed Easterly position. No doubt insurance will fund a brand new one for the unfortunate owner.
Not exactly the 87 Hurricane.
Unfortunately 2 houses, not an outhouse
winds are strong, but not that strong – I would say that this was a p””s poor job of putting roofing felt on.
Must have had some proper cowboy do it.
Weird things happen in bembridge look at the people
Whoever did the job, skimped on the adhesive.
Why send a fire engine from Ryde, when Bembridge have one of their own just up the road…?
Should also have a 3 layer torch on system on this roof as it’s lived in!! And to blow off in one big section like this is terrible! The owner should be ringing the cowboy builder who done this!!! Not wasting the fire stations time!!
The owner didn’t telephone the fire brigade.
Agree. Roof done many years ago by previous owner/s so no chance of ringing the builder responsible. Quality of fitting not seen until it blew off. Be assured a proper job will be done with the replacement. Somebody called the fire brigade because heavy roofing was balanced between a tree and a sloping roof and it was still very windy.
Poor owner wont get chance to put that right for a while. Try getting your hands on any building materials from competent dealers. Impossible. Good luck dear owner and i pray for no rain or you. Xx
