On Sunday (19th February), several Wight Tri members took on the recent IOW Cross Country Championships, hosted by Ryde Harriers from Smallbrook Stadium.
This was a tough, muddy and hilly off-road run meandering through the farmlands south of the stadium. The course demanded an abundance of strength and endurance to push through these underfoot conditions, but this did not deter our hardy triathletes.
First home for Wight Tri was Rob Johnson, finishing in 7th position overall and 2nd in the MV40 category in 42:50. Craig Wilson was next in 10th position in 47:56, taking another 2nd category Award, but this time in the MV50 age group, followed by Jack Elton-Walters who completed the run in 48:57, 12th overall and 4th in the SM category.
Rob, Craig and Jack were also awarded with the 3rd Male Team Award.
Female member Lucy Doorly and Super Veteran Roy Young also took podium spots. Both had excellent runs with Lucy posting a super time of 1:01:00 to take 5th female position overall and 3rd in the FV 35 category and Roy in 1:03:42 to take 2nd in the MV60 award.
Joe Pullinger, Grant Philbrick and Nick Lever completed the Wight Tri runners with solid performances to finish in 4th, 5th and 7th MV50 positions in 53:41, 53:47 and 59:41 respectively.
The next and final event in the Ryde Harriers Cross Country series will also incorporate the Wight Tri Cross Country Club Championships. This will be held on Sunday 26th February at Smallbrook Stadium.
