Wightlink has announced a series of cancellations on both its Fishbourne and Yarmouth car ferry services for tomorrow (Thursday) due to staff absences.
The 06:40 sailing from Portsmouth and the 07:40 sailing from Fishbourne have both been pulled by the cross-Solent operator.
It has also been confirmed that the 06:15, 08:40 and 10:45 sailings from Lymington and the 07:30, 09:45 and 11:45 sailings from Yarmouth have been cancelled.
Wightlink apologises for the inconvenience this action will cause. The company says they have not been able to source short notice cover so have taken this action as a last resort.
All booked customers have been notified and moved to alternate sailings.

Just wondering if this is the real reason. Are they just cancelling sailings due to lack of bookings?
Wouldn’t be surprised. I bet they are about as transparent as IOW council…
You can garentee it!…
Time to build a bridge
oh please give it up..
Of course that’s the real reason. Been researching this for years. They just reel off a standard list of excuses. This week its an essential crew member gone awol (at Portsmouth AND Lymington ???), Next week it’s (just checking my records…) a mechanical issue, the week after, harbour movements, and the week after there will be a medical emergency. Why they don’t just tell the truth “In order to save money, and secure more profit…” I really don’t know.
Not due to lack of bookings, but due to being an absolute cr#p company!
My wife was booked tomorrow am,Yarmouth-Lymington, they messaged her this afternoon to tell her her ferry is cancelled and they’ve moved her to Fishbourne-Portsmouth.
Absolute abysmal service (No Service)!
She chose Lymington route as she’s going to Bournemouth to collect our son from University!!
He’s been at Bournemouth University just over a year and we’ve been Controlled by Wightlink for this entire time, when we visit or collect our son.
Worst Service ever!
Islanders are being held to ransom by these Ferry firm’s Who are answerable to no one, except their Shareholder’s.
Have they started on the TUNNEL yet ???
NO give it up
This is no longer a service, it’s a disgrace!!
Are we talking about the bridge again or is that not allowed any more?
move on nothing to see here..
The service failure is not because of an “essential member of staff ..” the issue is the incompetent Wightlink management .. since running a lockdown partial service the company has not re employed suitable/adequate staff to cover its service schedules, they must believe the need to please shareholders .. above looking after customers . I have given up choosing Wightlink.. awful service provider .
This shower aren’t worth the time it takes to comment any more
Is it beyond comprehension to organise staff on standby days, or is it because they don’t have enough staff. I think this is a job for our MP to sort out.
