Sandown’s eyesore hotel – The Ocean Hotel – has been broken into again with emergency services finding 2 people living in the derelict ruins.
This latest incident is just the most recent in the long ongoing catalogue of break-ins and anti-social behaviour that the hotel has fallen victim to, with its owners being warned multiple times in the past 6-months about the state of the empty site.
This afternoon (Saturday), barriers that were blocking the entrance to the Hotel on the town’s High Street, had been knocked over – laying sprawled all over the floor.
One local noticed the barriers had been pushed aside and re-erected them before alerting the emergency services.
Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist in ascertaining if the building was safe and free from trespassers. A single ambulance crew was also in attendance.
During their inspection they found that there were in fact 2 people squatting inside the property.
Police have been informed of the incident.

Set fire to it and and the contents!!1
KNOCK IT ALL DOWN AND BUILD A PUBLIC PARK.
With a bit of imagination, it could look stunning.
why is it a few years ago i got a letter from council too cut my hedge back or else a fine? this hotel owner gets nothing …no fine…no prision..nothing and its causing misery.my hedge wasnt but i get a enforcement letter or else.
have the courts fined them or what.
fine all the multiple owners if thats excuse given so far
Yea .I had a similar letter about a single twig encroaching on onto a pathway, and if i didn’t sort it they would send someone around to cut it and then charge me. As a good responsible citizen i cut back the 6″ twig, took me all of 5 seconds. When i see the mess Sandown is getting into with the Ocean hotel in a sorry mess. Something very wrong here.
If they arrived by Dinghy from France they would be put up in Hotels in UK with free food etc
Put all the homeless in there. Bingo, no more housing shortage, stop all the building!
All these mysterious fires at semi derelict buildings, what in the hope that they get permission to knock them down and build luxury apartments on the sites or is it just my mind over thinking things?
Refurbish the hotel and use it to stop the bed blocking at the hospital
Ambulance on stand by?? You call one for emergency and none turn up.
Attack people for being homeless but then lock up liveable spaces so they can’t have a home. No wonder they are like they are, you reap what you sow.
Latest break in? It’s permanently accessible for anyone who wants to walk in! The barriers go up and down constantly they are not fixed to anything. Urban Explorers, youths, vandals, squatters and arsonists have been coming and going – no news here really it’s been like this since 2019. But blue rosette wearing councillors from Sandown, Bembridge and Shanklin met the blue rosette wearing PCC talked ASB and had their pics snapped on the steps last week for PR and Socials ***rolls eyes.
