Southern Vectis is showing its support for the Royal British Legion by showing off a special ‘poppy-themed’ design for one of its vehicles.
The Isle of Wight bus operator is helping to raise funds and awareness in support of all members of the nation’s armed forces, past and present.
Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham said:
“People on the island are rightfully proud of our country’s military – as is the team here at Southern Vectis. As part of this community, we are keen to show our support for servicemen and women.
“We will be helping to raise funds, on buses and at our travel shop in Newport. The work our troops do in unimaginably hostile war zones is incredibly humbling. And we hope, by proudly displaying our poppies and raising awareness for this worthwhile cause, we’re backing our words with actions.”
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s annual fundraising initiative, starting in late October and running through to Armistice Day on 11th November.
Clare Peppiatt, community fundraiser at the Royal British Legion, said:
“We are delighted that such a well-known local firm is supporting our appeal and has donated to our cause.
“With so many people travelling on Southern Vectis buses, I feel sure this will help to raise our profile still further. Our role is to help servicemen, women, veterans and their families in almost every aspect of daily life.
“We also champion Remembrance, safeguarding the memory of those who have given their lives for our freedom – and I am looking forward to working with firms like Southern Vectis to do that this year.”
