A slurry tanker has come off the road and toppled over into a hedge on the main road into Chale this afternoon (Saturday).
The incident has occurred on Appleford Road between the junction with Leechmoore Cross and Appleford Lane.
Recovery agents Stag Lane Motors are on scene and are working to right the trailer, which was being towed from the AD plant at Gore Basin towards Atherfield.
The road has been closed in both directions by Island Roads to allow for the recovery operation – which locals say is rather smelly!
Southern Vectis say their Route 6 buses are now unable to serve between Chillerton and Chale. Buses are diverting along Highwood Lane and Rookley to reach Niton and Blackgang.
It’s the second incident of the day in the Chale area, with a cyclist seriously injured in a road traffic incident on Chale Street this morning. This road also remains closed with the only access to Chale Green now via Chillerton or Pyle.

Did the entire contents of county hall spill across the road?
The tanker wasn’t that big!
Probably not going fast enough! Spreading gestate onto waterlogged fields running straight into water courses and streams green island?
Driving again too fast for the width of the road guess it’s another tractor incident been a few tractor trailer incidents recently large wide super single tyres white lining on the roads
All right, a bit obvious, but sh#t happens! Tee hee. First in; aren’t I brave?
Pity not outside the council offices really….. as well.
