1 of the many derelict hotels in Sandown could be turned into apartments following the submission of slightly revised plans to transform the eyesore Esplanade Hotel.
Plaza Property Developments – who unveiled the plans back in June 2022 – have made SOME slight alterations to the proposal to turn the block of buildings into 20 apartments — 14 for residential use and 6 for self-catering holidays.
The changes that have been made all centre around the need to adjust boundary fencing in the garden that will be renovated should plans be approved.
In 1970, while it was the Seagrove Hotel, Jimi Hendrix stayed the night before his famous Isle of Wight Festival set.
The building has had a chequered history since then, with the hotel last used as budget accommodation before it was sold to its current owners 3 years ago. Despite being in new ownership since 2019, the hotel was already said to be in a state of disrepair so has not reopened since.
You can view the plans, 22/00660/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register.

Let’s hope they get approval and get on with it very soon.
Fingers crossed that the brown envelope is sufficiently full.
Oh I’m sure they will be. These will make very nice second homes for some of my chums from London, looking for a little bolt hole to use every now and then, to escape the chaos of the city.
