A Shanklin man who used a ‘For Sale’ board to damage a shop front, because he was angry that his landlord was selling-up, has been handed a conditional discharge.
Daniel Tredinnick, 48, of Western Road, admitted causing criminal damage to property under £5,000 when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (27th September).
Lauren Stone, prosecuting for the CPS, told the court that on 11th September Tredinnick entered Arthur Wheeler Estate Agents in Shanklin looking to speak to a member of staff about his rental property. The conversation centred around the number of viewings being conducted at Tredinnick’s address – which he was recently told was to be put up for sale.
Later that evening a member of staff at the estate agents was notified that the front window of the premises had been damaged. On their way to check out the situation, a staff member noticed that the for sale sign outside Tredinnick’s address was missing.
At the scene on Regent Street, Tredinnick – who had written ‘buyers beware on the board’ – had used the sale board to damage the shopfront. The 48-year-old then proceeded to wait outside the premises for Police.
Tredinnick has a total of 20 convictions for 65 offences and was last in court back in 2014.
Defending the 48-year-old, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client had suffered 3 serious bereavements in the last 12 months and that he was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Magistrates handed Tredinnick a 12-month conditional discharge. He was ordered to pay compensation of £1,440 and a surcharge fee of £26.
