29-year-old Callum Steele, who crashed his car on the dual carriageway but then failed to report the single-vehicle smash, has been found to be in breach of a Crown Court suspended sentence order. Steele, of Victoria Avenue in Shanklin, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week charged with failing to stop a vehicle after a road traffic collision. Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on 3rd December 2023, Steele, driving his Audi, was involved in a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the dual carriageway in Newport in which he collided with the nearside and offside barriers on the road. Debris was left all over the road including parts from Steele’s vehicle such as the radiator and exhaust. Instead of reporting the accident and calling the emergency services, Steele instead decided to leave his car in situ and walk away from the scene. He was then picked up by a passing motorist whom he knew and was given a lift back to Shanklin. The next day, some 14 hours later, Steele notified Police of the incident stating that he lost control of the back end of his vehicle as he travelled in the slow lane. By committing this latest offence, Steele was in breach of a 2-year suspended sentence order imposed by the Isle of Wight Crown Court in June 2022, when he was sentenced for 2x drug supply offences and possession of an offensive weapon. The case has been sent up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court where Steele will appear for sentencing on 20th February. He was granted unconditional bail until that time.

Jail time needed rather than a slap on the wrist this time
The law on the Island is too soft, that is why people keep
re-offending.
Unfortunately, the magistrates and judges are the ones who keep missing this point.. Asking for any kind of justice is pointless and these repeat offenders have never been punished in their sorry lives so why should they stop? I am not of the ‘flog em and hang em’ persuasion but surely it is time they were removed from society for a while just to give us all a break from their behaviours?
Yeah right !! Fled the scene to dodge going to jail .. if it was a genuine RTA he would have stayed at the scene .. he’s telling porkies ..
So 14 hours later he was able to blow a zero breathalyser? Throw the book at it.
What a shame, drives like a idiot and acts like idiot get him off the road…….I’ll give you a wave callum when your waiting for the bus
There are some nice empty Palmerstone follies that could re house people like this, they clearly don’t learn anything from their experiences. They are the reason for all our insurances going up year on year.
Well tis the winter ..3 more months then the suns out can’t wait for that to happen..oh its too hot if it gets to 22 degrees.
yes it is, and it should be snowing or at least below zero. It’s more like April out there. Anyone too blind to see that everything we have been told is coming true needs to pull their head out of their MAGA rear.
Temperature today was 6°C which is slightly below average for the IOW. Thought I should point that out 🙂
Stop talking sense.
MAGA?! Why are you referencing this slogan here amongst non-Americans? Leave the MAGA putdown for the actual looney MAGA Americans!
Give it half an hour, those remaining ferry compoanies that actually run will be announcing cancellations.
Should wash all that diesel fuel off the roads that has been spilt from Newport to Ryde.
Finally the wino karens can justify their massive SUVs for the school run
I fear that may lead to more cliff erosion
That’s bad news for the Military Road.
The old countryside saying “February fill Dyke” is coming true my old beauty!!!
