A 56-year-old man has been arrested by Police on suspicion of a child sex offence after being confronted by a ‘paedophile hunter’, with the sting being broadcast live to Facebook.
Social media users were made aware of the situation yesterday evening with over 2,000 people joining the Facebook Live stream. During the broadcast, a gentleman from the mainland confronted a male living in Shanklin and put a number of allegations to him. Police were called to the scene.
It has now been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary that officers responded to an address in Spring Gardens at 17:55 yesterday evening (Monday).
A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He remains in custody at this time.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have confirmed that the 56-year-old has been released from custody under investigation.
We shouldn’t need these hunters if the government spent our tax money on us and gave us a proper police force. The problem with vigilantes is that this pervert will be able to claim entrapment. Say he was encourage to break the law.
