Shanklin’s firefighters successfully extinguished a bin on fire at the County Ground after a barbecue was irresponsibly disposed of this evening (Saturday).
1 appliance and it’s retained crew were mobilised to the scene after smoke was seen to be issuing from the litter bin at around 21:00.
The fire was quickly extinguished by freighters, with the cause of the flames found to have been an irresponsibly disposed of disposal barbecue, which had been put in the bin whilst still smouldering.
Islanders are urged to correctly dispose of these types of barbecues, especially during the hot weather.

Poor “Freighters ” having to clear up after Dim wits.
Should stop selling these disposable BBQs …..
Happens every year, some really stupid people about. Wild camping is not allowed.. bbq’s shouldn’t be allowed in public places.
No brain cells in people like that, how anyone could do that without being able to work out the consequences beats me!
They ARE fully aware of the consequences – they just dont give a flying sh*t about anyone or thing apart from their own arrogant ignorant selves.
These morons are so thick it’s a wonder they can even blow their own nose. They dumped it in the bin while the coals were still hot. Der……they should have put some water on it to ensure it was out. No water available, you know the next best thing don’t you.
