Police are keeping guard over a crime scene outside the entrance to Travelodge in Newport following what is understood to be a serious assault overnight.
At around 01:30 this morning (Friday), officers responded to reports of an incident occurring on Lugley Street – right outside the main doors to the Travelodge hotel.
A cordon has since been erected around splatters of blood on the pavement.
Investigations into the early hours incident are underway, with further information set to be released by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary later this morning.
The hotel remains open with guests being directed to use a side door.
UPDATE @ 10:29 – Police have confirmed that a male in his 20s has sustained head and facial injuries.
