Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Newport Road at 09:08 following reports of a public order incident within the nursery section of the public school. As a precautionary measure, the school implemented its lockdown procedures. It has been confirmed that a 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of common assault against a woman, using threatening or abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and resisting arrest. He has been taken into custody at Newport Police Station where he remains this afternoon. Thankfully, no children were harmed during the incident.
