Officers from the South Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) held a Crime Prevention day at The Broadway Centre offering advice and help with Scams, Fraud & staying safe online, joined by local councillors and users of Sandown’s Broadway Centre. The event provided a great opportunity for residents to speak face-to-face with Police Officers, in an informal and relaxed environment, with guidance given on online shopping scams that can take place at any time of the year but are especially prevalent during the holiday shopping season. Fraudsters create fake, spoofed, and lookalike websites with too-good-to-be-true deals on popular items to trick their victims into sending payments or sharing their credit card details and personal information. Sandown Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot said:
“It was good to see residents get up-to-the-minute information on Crime Prevention, as well as meet our local officers, and the event highlighted what actions to take to stay safe online.”
